Emily is the lead trainer and co-founder of Recreation Fitness. She is an independently Certified Personal Trainer through the American Council on Exercise (ACE). As a sedentary kid who was finally inspired to get in shape in her adult life, she knows firsthand that it is never too late to try something new, and is dedicated to helping her clients surprise themselves with what they can accomplish through fun, recreation inspired workouts.

Fera: What keeps you busy?

EDL: When I’m not training and teaching, I’m in my year-round backyard vegetable garden. It keeps me busy! I absolutely love getting my hands in the dirt, being outside every day and watching nature work her magic. I never thought I’d have time for gardening, but it’s my daily therapy, and great exercise, too!

Fera: What's your favorite workout?

EDL: Though I positively love a long run, I’ve have to say my all-time favorite workout is surfing. It works everything, and yet is so peaceful and fun. I’m not a great surfer (yet), but I hope to be one day!

Fera: What is the healthiest thing you do?

EDL: I cook. I believe good health is born in the kitchen, so my husband and I cook almost every meal, and only eat out on special occasions. Not only does it save us money, but we rarely ever get sick, even during cold/flu season. We focus on nutrient-rich, fresh ingredients and are always trying new recipes. Neither of us are natural-born chefs, but I like to think we are getting there.

Fera: What is your strangest beauty/health tip?

EDL:  I drink a TON of water. It keeps my skin clear, adds shine to my hair, brightens my eyes and gives me energy.  Never leave home without it!

Fera: Fave workout song?

EDL: I don’t typically work out to music, but when I do, I love just about anything dance-y. DJs like Diplo and Kid Koala; funk, hip hop, electronic, you name it. Lately female artists like Santigold and Lykke Li have been at the top of my playlist.

Fera: What's your favorite inspirational quote or saying?

EDL: Not sure who said it originally, but it’s so true: “You're only one workout away from a good mood.”

Fera: Tell us about the last time you wore Fera.

EDL: I was teaching two back-to-back outdoor classes in the rain and it was pretty windy and cold out. I had on my Bliss leggings, a light tank and my Soma ½ zip top. I was worried I might not be warm enough, even though we were running around, but I was snug as a bug! And by the time I got in the car, my clothes were almost dry.
